What is a scholarly article?

Scholarly articles have been written by a professional in that field, are based in fact, and have been peer-reviewed by other professionals in that field.

Here is a checklist to see if the article you are looking at is a scholarly article:

 

Two main types of scholarly articles are:

  • Literature Reviews- articles that review the "literature" or studies that have already been published 
  • Studies- articles that conduct studies that are quantitative, qualitative, or both. Usually have sections about Method or Methodology and Results or Findings. They also usually have charts, graphs, tables, pictures, or illustrations
